North Down Softball Club got their Softball Ulster Start of Season Blitz underway with a battling team performance at Mallusk, finishing fourth overall after a tough day of competitive softball.
It was a day full of big performances across the squad, with players stepping up both offensively and defensively throughout the tournament.
Marc Taylor led the charge with an impressive seven RBIs, while JC added a home run and multiple RBIs of his own. Tara Cornwell, Cammy O’Neil and Matty Connor also delivered key contributions, helping NDSC stay competitive across a series of hard-fought games.
Lisa Wallace was another standout performer, reaching base every time across both games and giving the team a consistent attacking platform.
Defensively, NDSC produced a strong showing, with clutch plays from Caz Walker, Tara Cornwell, Danny McCartney and Matty Connor. The outfield also provided solid support throughout the day, while Cammy O’Neil delivered lights-out pitching to keep the team in contention.
Despite facing tough opposition across all games, NDSC battled hard from start to finish and secured a fourth-place finish overall — a massive team effort and a positive start to the season.
The day’s MVP awards went to Naomi Connor and Matty Connor, with Marc Taylor and Cammy O’Neil also receiving special mention after coming close for their standout performances.
There were plenty of special shoutouts on the day too, including Lisa Wallace for powering through, Niamh Lennon O’Keefe for bringing both runs and baking, and Marc, Martin and the crew for their umpiring and commitment throughout the tournament.
A final thank you goes to Charlene McCartney for her sideline support — and for providing birthday cake.
It was a day full of energy, commitment and team spirit from NDSC, with plenty of positives to take into the next fixtures.
